Lots of rich people live paycheck to paycheck. Plenty who aren't rich, don't.

Dad actually got me a credit card today just so I can establish a credit score. I am kind of angry about this actually. I much prefer using debit. I'm just going to use it like a debit card, I'm not stupid enough to try to buy something I can't afford when I have no income.

I hope you told him off.

He's angry at the way credit scores work, not at our dad. Obviously.

I still don't see the big deal.

I put absolutely everything on the CC. I pay it off every month. No fees, no interest, but thousands of dollars in rewards...

Ditto- except I pay it off twice monthly-- I just check the balance online and pay it off when I get paid--- I know I am not taking full advantage of the interest free period but its just taking money that was in my chequing account earning diddley anyway

I have no use for a credit card here. Even a debit card is of dubious value since the only ATMs are right next to the bank and can't give out enough cash anyways. My credit is good everywhere in town though!

I do have a penny balance on my Paypal :/

Doesn't your bank offer a service to send you an SMS when you have a balance for payment?
This way you don't have to worry about forgetting.

I have two credit cards and they both automatically take the money out of my checking account each month. They are just debit cards with rewards (well one of them) and hopefully it helps my credit score.

Umm... why don't you set up automatic payments?

The specifics vary, but some cards reward you for using the card or reward you for using the card in specific ways. For example, maybe they give you 1% of all purchases as cash but bump it up to 5% if you use it at certain partnered retailers; or you get (the traditional) airline miles every time you make a purchase, etc.
