This behaviour is despicable, for sure, and people need to be arrested and punished, but we don't have capital punishment for murder and you want the police to summarily execute unarmed kids without trial for arson, vandalism and stealing??!?!

I would never want to live in a country where that was seen as a legitimate choice for the police. Horrendous.

In more positive news, this morning an amazing riot cleanup operation is happening. Normal people, organised by twitter, are getting out on the streets to clean things up. It's amazing and heartwarming and brilliant.

Cameron has come out and spent a full 4 minutes making a statement where he said the scenes were sickening and we needed more police on the streets tonight.

Yeah, this made me think of the Watts riots in the 60's. It started with a single traffic stop of a black man. I wonder how much worse it could have been if they had cell phones to organize it better.

Short speech:

Looters, you will be sentenced to prison to a minimum of 5 years and we will build new prisons for that if it is necessary.
Home invaders, you will be shot.
Arsonists, minimum of 10 years.
Rapists, you will be shot.
Anyone under 14 years old caught looting will have their parents fined or convicted of a felony should they play any part in it.

Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures. This is not protesting. This is trashing up the community. This will only end up costing money, it will be away from something that is needed like health care or what ever it is, this is just taking away from it. That's why they need to save what can be saved, bring up the big deterrence with minimum sentences. Water cannons, rubber bullets, and real bullets for the home invaders and rapists. They can go all sociology after this has calmed down FIRST.

That's the point. What is the Prime Minister going to do? Everyone was *****ing and moaning that he wasn't around, as if he was going to personally quell the riots and everyone else was sitting on their hands waiting for him to swoop in and tell them to do. Now that he's back, surprise, surprise, all he is going to do is make useless speeches and pose for photo ops to pretend he is helping. He'd be better off playing tennis.
