It was me. In New Orleans and in the LA Riots the governors authorized shooting looters and the looting stopped in a heart beat. All it takes is the governing declaring a state of emergency. In true emergencies even habeas corpus can be suspended, heck, even Lincoln did it.

While there probably isn't any reason to blame Lincoln for doing such since it probably was the way things was done back then, there certainly are reason to do it today. The authorisation of the shootings in LA and New Orleans could easily be compared with what is happening in Syria today.

This has got nothing to do with the last govt's immigration policies. The people involved are not recent arrivals, though there are stories of turkish shopkeepers organising themselves in their areas to defend themselves against the looters.

Let's state the obvious, in the US shop owners pull out shot guns and threaten to shoot would be looters and it actually works at deterring the looters. Legally, they have the right to use deadly force to protect their life and property so why not? Especially if the police are unable to protect them. In the LA Riots tons of shops in Korea town got targeted by rioters and looters... Until the Korean-American shop owners organized a local citizens militia to protect Korea town and then suddenly no more Korean owned shops got burned down. A few dead looters & arsonists and the rest run and hide as they should.

Yeah, because shooting arsonists and looters committing grand theft, home invasion, and business invasion (all violent felonies) is exactly the same as shooting unarmed peaceful protesters. So what happens when the arsonists set a fire which spreads and some little old lady in a wheel chair dies because she can't get out of her apartment in time? Or when someone has a heart attack but the ambulance can't get there because the rioters/looters are setting fires in the street? We're talking a serious threat to public safety and order which needs to get stamped out before more innocents get harmed.

Also the national guard has a pretty good track record of not shooting people they don't have to. It's not perfect, but to compare it to the slaughter in Syria is laughable.

Because fairly often, you end up with a dead teenager looter, who of course has a gun, or a dead shopkeeper, or a dead mom picking up diapers and caught in the crossfire. The US has the highest death rate by pop. by guns in the world (outside of war zones).
You really do not want easily accessible guns anywhere. How do you think the rioters would behave if they had handguns?

The UK has marching seasons in one part of the country, where rioting is so common they've got armored vehicles with water cannons on stand-by. Their capitol city has been burning for half a week now, with thousands of police unable to provide security for the residents. All across England (though not Wales) sympathy riots have been breaking out, with police unable to prevent arson, looting, and home invasions.

And they think I'm crazy because I've got a few guns.

I pray that America never becomes as civilized as the UK. I'm happy living in a country where violent criminals get shot and decent people can own guns.

Why are people considering two explanations being plausible? That it has to do with race. As in "they are immigrants, they don't want to adapt, clash of cultures". Let me rephrase that, that it has to do with cultures. What culture burns down their stores?

Also, the other option, that the society has let down the youth. No jobs, etc.

These might be secondary factors, but the significant factor is that most of these rioters are idiots just looking for an opportunity to loot. Or perhaps they are idiots and realized it once looting started.

Regardless, the solution is to shoot them in their faces with rubber bullets. Looters and rioters are like locuses, destroying their own habitat.

I'm very pleased to hear your apparent eyewitness report that Bristol is no big deal, but maybe that's why no-one is talking about Bristol. I don't know where you get the impression that Bristol has been described as an 'Apocalypse', and I've even less idea why you thought we were discussing it.

I'll spell it out back. When you say "no-one is talking about Bristol" you're omitting the small matter of the Nation-wide media, and the reason why I'm using "end of the world" expressions is because of national media headlines like this-
