I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara
For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

    • I partially agree with the comments about welfare being a reason behind the riots, but I think an equally important reason, touched on before, is the "what you gonna do about it?" lairy mentality that the young have these days. Such mentality appears common, and I've observed it as coming out of teachers being unable to handle/discipline unruly kids, parents unable or unwilling to discipline their kids, and police who are hamstrung in being able to prevent petty crimes.

The looting is opportunistic personal gain and greed, the thrill of telling authority to **** off, the enjoyment many get from wanton destruction, all topped off with the feeling that the worst that will happen is a right ticking off and possible finger wagging.

Because travelling there is too much effort for them. They are lazy.

          • I can't see what all the fuss is about. The Bristol "riot" looked like a fairly average Friday night- just occurring on a Monday.

            • We have no recent history of water cannon, CS gas, rubber & plastic bullets being used on the UK mainland (though we have in Northern Ireland)

I guess it's fine when it's the Irish you're shooting.

Very funny, Bugs. Tell that to the people that have lost their homes and businesses, and had to leap from burning buildings.

                        • Case in point- The Mirror headline was "Bristol rioting like 'end of world movie'".

                          What actually happened?

Rioters targeted a Tesco Metro store, a bus stop and several doors had been kicked in.

In St Paul's, at least three burnt out cars and several bins had been set alight overnight and the Avon and Somerset Probation Trust offices had suffered damage.

In the main shopping area of Cabot Circus, designer jewellery store Thomas Sabo had its windows smashed.
If you paid to see that "End of the world" movie, you'd ask for a refund.

                          • Yeah...it's not like WW3 or anything. And it's not like it's ****ing Helmand, is it?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

                            • Bugs, have you no idea what has been happening? I'm not familiar with the details of the unrest in Bristol but the problem has been real enough all over London for starters.

Nothing I said was out of proportion. It has all happened. People are really suffering here. I'm not against black humour but just back off when it doesn't work.

                              • It's not like the other riots I've seen in Bristol either. The anti-Tesco one a few weeks back was far more heated.

This really was just a few isolated pockets of vandalism, rather than the apocalypse the media is describing. Still, I have to defer to the wisdom of those who weren't here and didn't see it.
