I don't know how much they cost, but when I go to the supermarket, I'm always shocked at how cheap the bananas are and how expensive the tomatoes are.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Tomatoes were extremely expensive a few months back (I even made a thread here about it) but they've dropped back to reasonable prices.

1$ per kg. Living in a banana empire of evil has its advantages.

~1.2$ per kilo or so... hard to believe they are so expensive elsewhere.

Well, the price in Norway of 1.8 means the average Joe needs to work less than two minutes to afford a kg. I call that very cheap.
