I expect tax-cuts for the rich come into it somewhere as well.

            • For a leftist it would be radical.

of course they would. they'd destroy those capitalist tranquilizers for the working man and replace them all with a comprehensive welfare state with free public health care. isn't that right, comrade.

                • Bernie Sanders once again comes up with a completely reasonable and effective solution which, of course, stands no chance at all of passing. Simply removing the cap on SSI (you only pay SSI taxes on the first $106,000 of earned income and any amount above that is tax free as far as SSI is concerned) and making it so you pay SSI on unearned as well as earned income (so that everyone pays in even if they're just an investor who officially doesn't have a job); that single change would make SSI solid for the next 75 years without any reductions in benefits nor moving the retirement age back. That's what I call a common sense solution because it means everyone will end up paying the exact same tax rate instead of the rich paying much lower tax rates then the middle class and poor.

                  • Your common sense approach is to increase taxes in the most distortionary way possible?

                    Great.

No. That's the only way the central bank can lower (nominal) food prices for the poor.

                          • A comprehensive welfare state is a system of government transfers that gives money to more than just the poor and unemployed. I don't support that. What I'm calling for is a very non-comprehensive welfare state.

I fail to see how making sure everyone pays the exact same pay roll tax rate is "distortionary". I call it equitable.

                              • Pay your taxes, *****!

Hell, I'll have to pay higher taxes (though since I make more then $106,000 but less then you) I won't have to pay as much of an increase as you but it does seem completely fair. Republicans can't whine for a flat tax then whine more when they're given a flat tax. Stuff them up their corn holes, says I.
