The sad fact is that none of these plans go far enough to put our finances on a solid path.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

    • I like the idea of the mint minting two 1 trillion dollar platinum coins... and then depositing them into the federal account.

      quantitative easing

      • One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

So just like in the Simpsons except it was a bill. Life about to imitate art once more.

BTW: While the topic of this thread was funny at first it's getting more unsettling by the hour. In the beginning sure we all laughed "hahaha", but now it's more of a nervous laugh, like "eheheh".

But you got this, though, America, right? Right...?

            • Well.

I'm not giving up on you. The hero of the day could still step forward and save everbody in the last minute. It's the American way. And we all know how much Hollywood loves that ****. Any minute now. Anyone got Will Smith's number? Denzel? Bruce Willis?

              • Nope, we're done for. The entire decade after 9/11 has been disaster after another for the United States. Default will just be icing on the **** cake. The rot is too deep.

Sadly, it seems almost certain at this point that an extremely painful crisis will be required to force America to pull its head out of its ass and put its house back in order.

                    • That's not the "can do" spirit! You two sound like communists.

                      • No, I'm a cynic. Commies have far more faith in the common man than I do.

It was absurd to laugh in the first place. If we go down, we're taking most of the world with us.

                            • Sure, but OTOH you were in need of a small attitude adjustment as I'm sure you'll agree.

                              • This is where the platinum idea comes from (maybe).
