  • Today was a fruit smoothy. Ice, grapes, an orange, half a lemon, spinach, an avocado, parsley, a clove of garlic, and some wheat grass. A bit of water to make it smoother then blend it on high until frothy.

Hopefully no one makes a frothy Santorum joke.

    • Frosted mini-wheats with whole milk.

'Cuz whole milk was cheapest this time around.

      • It actually makes sense that whole milk is cheaper since it requires less processing. Usually though the milk companies try to pull a fast one on us. Think about it, nonfat milk had all the fat removed to make butter & cheese (which is worth more than milk) yet they usually try to get us to pay more for nonfat then for whole milk. That means they're making money on the cheese & butter yet are still charging more for nonfat. That's just wrong.

          • It's not wrong economically but if you're making twice the money (because you get twice the product from the same raw material) then it seems slightly unfair. Sure, charge what the market will bare but stop whining when people point out the hypocrisy of it from a factual point of view.

it's hypocritical to charge less for whole milk even though the demand for nonfat milk is apparently much greater?

                  • In my experience, skim and whole milk are usually both more expensive than 1% and 2%; 2% tends to be lowest. That's what made it noteworthy to me.

I think it's all demand driven, and there's nothing wrong with that. They do use the cream for other products, but there is also a cost to extracting it and storing it separately.

                            • I ended up settling for diced onion and potatoes fried in a pan, two eggs (sunny side up), and two pancakes. Washed it down with OJ and coffee (freshly ground and made using my French press).
