People don't change their physical appearance for their own benefit when they look in the mirror; they do it for others, for the society around them. They want to fulfill some expectation of what they should look like, or be accepted by others because of a certain appearance, etc. It's at its root, a societal problem. It's people trying to achieve the expectations society imposes on them.
Furthermore, it is interesting how Nicki Minaj catapulted from a virtually unknown Brooklyn female rapper to a superstar with the Harajuku transformation facilitated by cosmetic surgery. That also indicates a societal problem because old Nicki, despite being seemingly attractive enough, was a nobody until her changes.
Lil Kim had commercial success pre-surgery which continued post-(some) surgery but hasn't released an album in a few years, since she's really gone plastic, so it's not clear that her changes had any bearing on her commercial success.

What is interesting about some generic rapper acting like a freak and garnering more attention? You don't get that much attention by acting the way society expects you to act unless you are very talented. Why? Because you don't stand out at all. Now, you have to consider the population. A 20-year old girl who is average for her age will be much more attractive when compared to the general population which is much older.

No one said anything about slimness. I said non-fatness. There's a huge difference between being "meaty" or "curvy" and having enough excess storage for it to actually form into rolls and folds.
