          Offensive? Yes.

True? Yes as well I think.

Seems reasonable to me to reason a third world population makes a third world nation. To not make a third world nation you'd have to be able to assimilate them properly and turn them into first world peopled. Israel can't assimilate Arab palestinians who don't look any different and don't have different norms than Middle Eastern Jews did when they first arrived in Israel. How are they supposed to assimilate African Muslims who are much farther culturally and also just plain look different?

No country in Europe actually has managed to have a immigration and integration policy where nonWestern immigrants and their descendants aren't a net tax drain. Canada, to give credit where credit is due, has managed to do this, but only because its very picky about who it lets in, which brings us back to needing first world people (proper work ethic, education, norms, ability, ect.) to start with.

The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

None of it is true. Hera doesn't know the difference between fact and opinion. His own posts demonstrate how both ignorant and stupid he is.

Hera, I think it is time to pre-empt Slovenia being overrun by foreign invaders, and move to India... once you settle and adjust there - no amount of people, even Chinese, will be large enough to change the local culture. So if you cannot beat them - join them

if i remember correctly from my undergrad years - the hardware differences across people are small (even though they do exist). main differences are in work ethic, and apparently the PWE (protestant work ethic) cultures are most effective in getting things done.

I don't know about protestantism in China but they do "get things done" albeit not on an individual level.

Badly. Remember the quakes? I wonder if anything they build is up to code. And their rapid development is a product of the sheer amount of resources they have to throw around, not efficiency. If anything the culture of kickbacks, bribery and centralised planning has hampered and will hamper its development. It'll be fast despite, not because of their culture.

What a ridiculous post. You act as if poverty is nothing more than a product of poor upbringing and/or genetics and that children of immigrants will not be successful because their parents were so lazy they traveled thousands of miles. And why did you claim the US and Canada would not be first world nations? Now you're saying Canada is very picky. Oh, and I guess you think the US will stop being a developed country because some hispanics and Asians came in

that's funny, because chinese and jewish culture seem so similar - self-focusedness (if you don't mind the euphemism...) and 'local' ties rather than institutions (yet another euphemism)

The people with guns are policemen and soldiers. The soldiers have to carry their weapons when off duty in case they need to be quickly mobilized. (At least that's what a local told me when I was there.) It's basically reverse gun control. Didn't creep me out at all.
