The music is fine. It actually has a certain Motown sound to it. The guy can not sing well, though. I've heard of Bob Dylan before and I think I've heard that he's not known as being a good singer. He's really talking the latter verses, not singing. I mean, obviously, I have no problem with that, but dude doesn't have a good voice for pseudo-rapping and the way he pauses is awkward. If you're going to be talk-singing, I hate to say you need filler, but you need to make sure you have enough syllables to fill up the bars to avoid awkward pauses. I guess I will be mocked for critiquing the delivery of apparently the best rock singer in history or something but if this is the best rock song ever, it could stand some musical improvement. I do like some of the relatively (and relatively is a strong word here) rapid-fire rhyme schemes he used though.
The guy's voice is a big turn-off though and the song is fundamentally boring. Not my cup of tea.

Billy Joel? Not rock.
Bob Dylan? Not rock.
How do you feel about punk? Do you even know what that is?

In my experience, music doesn't really click until you get an emotional connection to it. "Like a Rolling Stone" reminds me of a girl who was a trifling *****. If my brain didn't tie it in to some sort of memory, I'd probably be bored by it. That's why a lot of these music sharing threads are pointless. I just don't feel the same way when I hear a song as you might. It's also why there are songs that I know are annoying and distasteful, but I enjoy them because the memories they conjure get my endorphins going.John Brown did nothing wrong.

al, my posts, in the music threads. without any false modesty, there's some great rock music there.
felch, everyone has different ideas about music, no one is going to have the exact same taste as someone else, but you'd be surprised how often people's tastes overlap. i've been introduced to some great music by people here."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.
"The most obvious predicition about the future is that it will be mostly like the past" - Alain de Botton

It depends what you mean by rock.
It depends on what you want out of music.
I don't presume to know what a guy with your...bizarre...tastes would like."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

You might like something like Santigold, which is new wave meets hip hop.

And this song always has a special place in my heart.
And a Live Acoustic version, shortly before the singer's death:

I like OneRepublic and Maroon 5 a lot. I like Coldplay. The Killers. Kings of Leon. Stuff like that. Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz, as well, though I guess they're different from the rest. Are those acceptable bands/artists that meet Apolyton's approval?
OneRepublic is the best of that bunch though. No songs on their albums that I would skip."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

This was my favourite song for much of the 90s...
