It wouldn't make sense to read one novel that starts at an earlier time, then read the next published novel that starts at a later time, then read the next published novel that starts at a time before the first one I read.
I want to follow the succeeding generations of the colonists, to see how the settlements change over time, and how the culture develops.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

So, how was The Silmarillion?Originally posted by MrFun View PostIt wouldn't make sense to read one novel that starts at an earlier time, then read the next published novel that starts at a later time, then read the next published novel that starts at a time before the first one I read.

This is always the right thing to do. Like the Chronicles of Narnia, the only way to really read them is in publication order... or else Magician's Nephew would be far more confused and less "aha!!" I'd think. Obviously the author intended people to know the previous bits of the story even if it was set prior to the earlier books.Originally posted by ColdWizard View PostI really wouldn't read them in the in-universe chronological order. Publication order would make for a better understanding of the world, characters and culture.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

That analogy flew completely over your head didn't it?Originally posted by MrFun View PostUh, because they have nothing to do with the Pern series.
