I just got done reading that book and I feel disappointed with the ending. It was still a good read but no where near as good as the first two books in the series.

Do you speak of the series of books about the dragons of Perm by Anne McAffrey? if so, is it any good? I have been thinking about getting the first book and perhaps reading my way through the series if it is any good. (Been to lazy to go looking around for the first book though).

And yes - the series is about how human colonists had bred native flying reptiles into dragons for the purpose of defending against the periodic Thread attacks.

I really wouldn't read them in the in-universe chronological order. Publication order would make for a better understanding of the world, characters and culture.
