Or do you mean stealing in advance of going to prison? Is that why you're going to prison? Because you stole a dollar to afford healthcare while in prison at a later time for the crime of stealing the dollar to afford...

oh my god! It's ouroboros! But with dollars and prisons and made by MrFun!
God, you're dumb. He's asking "if you found yourself in a situation where you couldn't afford health care you need, would you commit a felony so you could receive the health care prisoners receive, such as robbing a bank fo $1?"

And you criticize MY communication skills? MrFun failed considerably with this one.

I guess I'm stupid today also. I didn't take it that way either. But then I'm old and easily confused.

Why would I rob a bank for a dollar? I mightaswell rob the bank for the cost of my medical treatment and try to not get caught. If I do get caught, hey, medical treatment. If I don't, more power to me.

                  This entire thread is nonsensical.

Some people aren't douchebags and don't want to cause more problems for the bank than they have to.

Anyone who reduces themselves to thievery is placing themselves above society. It's only logical for such a person to steal for the full cost of his treatment.

Hey and I wonder if this non-douchebag thief considered the financial repercussions on society of his publicly-sponsored treatment in prison, as well as all the other costs of imprisonment.

Stealing just the cost of his treatment and not getting caught carries a lower societal price tag.

And I believe that if someone robbed a back for a buck and there was no weapon involved, they probably wouldn't receive any jail time.

                                Here is an analogy:

You are starving and have no way to earn money for food. You will be fed in prison at a cost of $1/day in food plus another $1/day to pay the guards.

What crime do you commit, assuming the penalties are the same? Do you assault someone, get caught on purpose, and charge society $2/day for your survival.

Or, do you steal $1 loaf of bread? You get caught, you charge society $2/day. You don't get caught, you eat your day's ration, and steal the next day and the next, charging society $1/day ad infinitum until you either die or get caught, then you resort to the $2/day rate.

Stealing and not getting caught is the ideal circumstance for society in this example. Of course, you will likely eventually get caught but by postponing the $2/day rate, your net drain on society is decreased.

I am of course, assuming the cost of policing is exogenous in either case.

                                makes sense?
