  • I like my brown eyes, but I am more attracted to people with blue or green eyes. All my bfs and gf had blue or green eyes now that I think about it... But the one night things are usually with brown eyed people... or I just don't remember and assume they were brown.

Also, I didn't know homosexuality was allowed in the FBI. Hey, B Etor, how old do you claim to be these days, anyway?

Its 50/50 with a blue/green eyed parent on one end and a brown eyed parent on the other, I think.

                    • My eyes are still baby blue (dark hair-- thats getting lighter now with the grey LOL).

I never really thought of blue eyes as superior or anything but it was the thing I was complimented on the most. I dated girls with all different color eyes. I recall a coupkle with striking light eyes but often other body/facial features were a more overriding criteria when selecting dating partners

No I thought it follows the classic recessive pattern.

                        B is dominant (brown)
                        b is recessive (blue)

BB and Bb produce brown phenotype
                        bb produces blue phenotype

Parent A: bb Parent B: BB
                        Bb Bb Bb Bb
                        All children have brown eyes

Parent A: Bb Parent B: BB
                        BB BB Bb Bb
                        All children have brown eys

Parent A: bb Parent B: Bb
                        Bb Bb bb bb
Half the children have brown eyes; half have blue eyes.

Parent A: Bb Parent B: Bb
                        BB Bb Bb bb
Three children have brown eyes; one child has blue eyes.

It's only 50/50 if one parent is blue-eyed and the brown-eyed parent has a blue-eyed ancestor themselves (they carry a recessive gene from a blue-eyed parent or from a brown-eyed parent who carries the gene [Bb]); If the brown-eyed parent does not have that gene then the combination of a blue-eyed parent and a brown-eyed parent results in all children having brown eyes; two brown-eyed parents can, if they both possess the gene, produce a blue-eyed child 25% of the time, however.

                          • I do have a gut feeling my breakdown is just the pop science they teach in 7th grade science class and might not be actually accurate. Maybe someone more well-versed can elaborate.

And I thought I color-coded the brown eyed genotypes brown but I can't tell if that's brown or dark green to be honest. My color deficiency is showing.

Your mom has a blue-eyed ancestor. Her genotype would be Bb; she manifests the brown-eyed phenotype but carries blue genes. Like I said, 50% chance each child will have blue eyes in that case.

                              • As long as we're talking about genetics a new study shows that westerners are "programmed" to seek fat and alcohol more then other people.

Westerners could be genetically programmed to consume fatty foods and alcohol more than those from the east, researchers in Scotland claim.
