Yeah, as stated by others already, in today's job market it's a buyers paradise. Companies can be way more selective. Being over qualified isn't the total negative that it sometimes was considered. I wouldn't over do it, but the days of just asking the typical grunt questions or none at all have changed. The only thing you want to avoid, is making them feel that the first chance you get at a better opportunity, you're out of there. You want them to feel that as opportunities at their company present themselves that you're willing to take up the challenge if they feel you're worthy of them. A fine line to walk.

I'll be hiring thirty people 2 months from now, any suggestions as to how to automate 5k applications that come in by e-mail? Are there any websites out there where I can design a little selection process, so I can redirect applicants there? I don't want to outsource this process to an intermediary.

I can sell you a system to do it, but it's probably too expensive for so few candidates.

You tell the most ridiculous stories about yourself and nobody believes you, you ****ing ****.

              1) what's your supposed phd in?
              2) what does your supposed company do?
              3) how would any company stay in business with somebody apparently paying in magic beans and with hiring practices as outlined by you?

Mike, which company is the low-cost no-frills operator in your area? What is this area called?

Some job boards have candidate management stuff built in that they let you have for free, probably the cheapest option for no-frills/low cost.

                  It's just called online recruitment...

Ok, thanks. Here in Spain there's only one online job ad system that is commonly used; infojobs. At best I can score applicants with a tiny multiple-choice test, so that's not very indicative. Others like monsterboard don't have as many applicants, at least not when I last checked last year.

A touch over the top but in general acceptable. I was always turned off by community commitment type questions in entry level interviews, but others might not care these days.

Why would those kind of questions be a turn off for you?

It strikes me as trying too hard.

Because in a buyers market, would it really matter to you what our community involvement was? When you're desperate for a job, that type of thing shouldn't make a difference.

I've always had great success in interviews by expressing excitement about the actual position (which may be hard for your position, I understand...), but in general being relaxed. My questions were always about work environment, room for growth, travel requirements, etc. Reasonable questions.
