My professional field is dominated by Indians. Is this good or bad?
I never cared enough...they are some variant of "foreign"
Bloody pakis, I say!

I was obviously doing a caricature of a British person. I don't call people pakis and pakis is nonsensical when referring to Indians, anyway.

if you face "true" competition from India, ie you provide "only" the same value as they can, you have lost, and better find a new field... but I bet you can provide a lot more so there is hope yet, despite of price disadvantage

I'm curious whether other engineering fields are also India-dominated. Or is it just IT?
For example, what about mechanical engineering?
To be brutally honest, Indian 'engineering' sucks, and sucks very badly. Even in 'IT' (which isn't a real engineering field, by the way, consisting as it does of 'advanced clerical work'), the quality of the average Indian is far, far, far worse than that of an equivalent professional from a country which actually has professions. (India, for reference, doesn't.)
a combination of low level of investment, high attrition, cultural factors, language, the whole market is still in the early phase of development , so I would expect in another decade when it's more mature the standards will be better. From what I can tell they have no issues with education/learning, but the environment around is not very stable/supportive of delivering consistently good service...
also service delivery is not low across the board, but it is mostly low...

What do you mean by "having professions"? Surely someone's area of work is
his profession, no?
