  • My professional field is dominated by Indians. Is this good or bad?

I was not even aware of this until I opened a LinkedIn account. I opened it so I could
look for work abroad, Asia if possible. I posted an ad in one specialist group in which
I wrote something like this: "BI specialist looking for work".

Within days, five guys from India contacted me expressing their desire to work for me
and asking whether I can provide them with a visa. Now, my English is not exactly perfect,
but I don't see how they could interpret my message as me providing work
It's even more confusing to me why they would want to come to Croatia of all places,
but I guess there are all sorts out there.

So, generally, do you face competition from India? Is that a good sign (as in, the area
has good perspective, everybody wants in) or is it a bad sign (everybody else is baling
    out)?

What was LordShiva's field? Some sort of consulting IIRC...

(for those not familiar: BI stands for Business Intelligence)

It's a sign that there are lots of "qualified" Indians with internet access who want to leave India. For scientists, the deluge of Indian and Chinese letters begins with the first publication.

Yeah, I work in IT too, there are a lot of them around...they are OK for things like development where you are *very* explicit in what you want. and then they will go away and "do the needful". But in terms of consulting and the very front line stuff (which is what I do) then, no...no competition generally.

        Blame the Jews.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

They want you to bring them to Croatia, so that they can flee to Germany right after that.

Yeah, Indian IT specialists are on average worse than American, European or Russian. My ROE is "assume nothing when writing specifications and leave no options cause they'll choose the wrong one".

Yep that's the pattern that I will confirm.

But they can be taught. The ones that were offsite and sucked that we brought in and took the time to teach them the business knowledge worked out OK. It really took some time to break them of habit of just doing without questioning.

I worked with an Indian consultant once. I asked him where from in India he was,
out of politeness, and he told me to name some states I know. I knew none and
so he would not tell me

He was a project lead on a big multinational implementation for our bank. It was
three years ago and that project is still ongoing. I hope he's paid well 'cause
chasing around Croats, Slovenians, Hungarians, Romanians and other trying to
get them to keep deadlines can't be fun.

I'm curious whether other engineering fields are also India-dominated. Or is it just IT?
For example, what about mechanical engineering?

Yeah, what's with Indians always being so cryptic about what part of Indian they're from or what ethnicity they are?
