You don't have to prove anything. There were many other far more newsworthy stories that day. The reporters there certainly didn't expect what he did talk about. To expect that announcement to "settle things" is worse than naive, it's retarded. To do it in response to Trump, of all people, was like trying to douse a wastebasket fire with gasoline. So either they were being exceptionally incompetant with public relations yet again, or they were using it as a distraction.
