I think this thread is proving that the Fat Robot understands English, pronunciation, subtlety, nuances and humour better than Alby.

            Here this SOLVES everything!

Voice samples of how Robert is pronounced in several languages. And Plomp is right, we English/Americans pronounce it like the French, unlike the Germans. Well, except for the queer way the French say their r's

                The Dutch pronunciation:

                Complete with the gutteral achk

I notice the stress in English English is on the second syllable while in American English, it's on the first.

I still am CyberShy on some forums. Not that I ever login there anymore. It was the most ridiculous name one could ever pick.

Seriously, I am always right. It's one of my talents. I can't help it, it just always is the case. It sucks, but when you start to accept it, it is possible to learn to live with it.

The French never pronounce the 't' at the end of a word. Neither do they pronounce the 's' if it's at the end of a word.

                          It's wrong.
That's with all community build stuff on the internet. It's not always right.
In dutch an 'o' is pronounced as in 'go' if there's one consonant after it.
It's pronounced as a 'o' as in 'got' if there are two consonants after it.

Same with 'a' as in 'obi wan kenobi' (two consonants) and 'a' as in ???? (can't think of any example)
And same with 'e' as in 'ben' (two consonants) and 'e' as in 'gay'

So Robert is as in 'go' and Robbert is as in 'got'.
Of course everybody can pronounce his name in any way he wants, so this guy on this site most probably pronounces Robert as in 'got'. So for him that's fine, but in general it's wrong.

So far the lessons on dutch pronunciations. It'll benefit you a soon as we'll reach world dominance and make dutch the world's core language. It already started when you guys named your dollar after our daalder.

                            and 'e' as in 'gay'
Huh? Gay is pronounced with a long A.
