Al: Do you support vigilante "justice?" If not then why are you defending the people who committed assault? Also, what does the victim's criminal history have to do with anything when the assailants had no clue of that criminal history (or did the victim start screaming "I was convicted of prostitution" when coming out of the bathroom)?

You're acting more like your namesake than usual.

He's making a special case for transgender people. Think of how a white southerner from the 1950's who normally doesn't support vigilantism would act if a black person used the white person's restroom.

        Here:

Police said Brown and a 14-year-old girl, who is being charged as a juvenile, ran into victim Chrissy Lee Polis in the bathroom of a McDonalds on April 18.

On top of that, according to his own admission in that video, the McDonalds staff denied Pollis use of their facilities because he was not a paying patron. Furthermore, a provision in a Baltimore bill that would have allowed transgenders to use bathrooms of their own choosing was not passed recently.

Looks like the blogosphere is already ruminating about the implications I've realized:

. It seems that the fight was over “using a bathroom”. Sadly this could get messy also for the victim, legally. The Baltimore Legislature recently shot down a “bathroom bill” which would have given transgender people the right to choose which bathroom they would like to use.
If this is a case of a 22 year old man entering a bathroom while a 14 year old girl was using it – get ready for a legal showdown. Any sleazeball criminal defense attorney will have enough facts to argue for a dismissal. I am sure the two girls have already been called by attorneys willing to take the case pro bono, trying to make a name. LGBT rights will spend more time on trial during this soon-to-be circus than the girls will.

What has to be giving local politicians and prosecutors heartburn is that just recently the Maryland legislature voted down a controversial bill that would have made it legal for the transgendered to decide which public restrooms they want to use. Thus we have the gay lesbian and transgendered community agitating for prosecution as a hate crime even as prosecutors wonder how they will find a local jury who won't think that a 22 year old man who entered a bathroom occupied by a 14 year old girl wasn't out of line to begin with.

              Good luck with that argument.

Anyone know any case law with regards to the status of transgenders?

I forgot that you believe that violence solves everything, be it an altercation with a co-worker or with some random person in the wrong bathroom

All but four states allow the gender to be changed on a birth certificate, which in effect makes sex reassignments in those states an official change of gender. A cursory examination of the expert opinions on transsexualism would show that the overwhelming consensus in the medical and mental health communities is that it's not the chromosomes or genitalia that make the gender. Transgenderism is viewed as a legitimate issue of individuals being born as the "wrong" gender.

Your personal "ick" factor doesn't justify the beating of this woman.

A woman whose beating of a transgender woman at a McDonald's restaurant near Baltimore was captured on videotape has pleaded guilty to the attack.

Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger says 19-year-old Teonna Brown pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of first-degree assault and one count of a hate crime.

Video of Brown's beating of 22-year-old Chrissy Polis went viral online, drawing national attention to the struggles of transgender people. Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley pledged to seek greater protections for transgender people.

Brown's sentencing is set for next month. Prosecutors say they plan to seek a prison term of five years.

Shellenberger says a girl charged as a juvenile in the same attack acknowledged her role in juvenile court on July 1 and was committed to a detention facility.
