Well, when it actually does something...

It has also served as a platform for a number of people who have had useful ideas, and Senate changes to legislation are sometimes found to be good ideas and acceptable to governments of the day.

I agree, but that is more theory than practice (and perhaps could be more this way if reformed). I think my description is more apt for the current institution.

HC, you don't need unanimous assent to ratify amendments to the US Constitution. Only 3/4ths.

That bit means you'd need unanimous consent to change the Senate.

Yeah but we're talking Canada and the Queen business... that's not changing... well I guess it would be changing the government of Canada... Hmm... this monarchy business while being your own country makes no sense.

                    It makes perfect sense.

We have a functional, stable system of government with fewer politicans.

Yeah but you're you're own country while your head of state is a freaking monarch from another country. Then you got Quebec which Asher tells me is its own nation.

Sounds more like a mess to me.

The monarchy is the least of our problems. It isn't a problem at all. It's a benefit. Fewer politicians = win.

How does the monarchy allow fewer politicians? They do nothing.

no need for an elected head of state.

The position(s) of head of state would need to be replaced. That's 11 more offices for politicians.

What are the Governor Generals then?

Or you could be like the US and have a President who is both head of state and head of government
