Yeah, the problems with portraying the mountain go beyond having three different actors in four years and I really don't think they go deeply enough into the whole sadism side. They show him being a dick and a bad dude but not the total sadist which we see in the book. Part of that is the nature of film media though because in a book you can have long internal dialogues about what characters are thinking where as in film you have to figure out another way to get the point across.

On another topic, I'm disappointed by the failure to maintain a consistent portrayal of Gregor Clegane. I am aware that they had to change actors, but the portrayal and appearance couldn't be much difference.

This latest version is a complete joke. He looks like a gym monkey who has spent much time on the beach and not a sadist killer who spends his life outdoors. He certainly bears no relation to Sandor Clegane. It isn't his fault, he is probably a really nice guy who hasn't the imagination to be play the role of a sadist and that is probably to be celebrated. However, in terms of portraying 'The Mountain' this is not a good thing. His slaughter of unarmed prisoners was too quick, there was no torture involved. The mental image of him raping anything is also laughable...

No doubt everyone will disagree with me once again.

It's not like it's difficult to find other, better sources of gratuitous violence. Just wonder into most British city centers on a Saturday night.

I am always amazed that violence is tolerated on screen far more readily than nudity as it makes no sense whosoever. That most of us are unembarrassed watching torture or disembowelment and yet cringe if we see genitalia in the company of others is daft. Desensitising (English) violence is far more dangerous than making us less awkward about our own bodies.

Less violence and torture and more nudity is the way forward for our society.

I don't think I can read this thread anymore until I finish the books. Damn Feast of Crows slowing me down.

Like reg, I'm skeptical of that theory myself.

Also because they thought he was ****ing her (and he probably was).

They'll figure out some other way to do it.

Which is a major error as, in the books, there was the harper which she loves so much in the room. The book made such a big deal about her loving the music from this harper then little finger frames him so well. No one even had sympathy for the harper becausae he was a would be rapist.

It was obvious. GRRM followed the supposed symptoms to the T.

If it is, I can legitimately pass off all my stupid nicknames as an homage. Brilliant.
He has a real name but everyone calls him by the nick name hot pie because he is a baker's apprentice. The scenes from the book bare no resemblance to the **** shown on TV.

I dunno, the girls (and a lot of the guys) who are my friends at CMU seem to be more comfortable with the Mountain eviscerating people's intestines than Oberyn getting sexed by six chicks and a dude. Don't know why. As for me I find the over-the-top violence hilarious, but the random sex scenes distracting and annoying. I just would prefer to separate my smut and my television.
    I no understand

Oh, in our group (another guy and a woman) have lots of fun mocking those scenes.

The show is waay too violent for my gf (who tends to like more hopeful or uplifting shows anyway, so another reason for her not to watch it ).
