Reminds me of Full Metal Alchemist. The show caught up and passed the manga. When the manga finished, they did a remake.

The manga story was better.

Actually, the artist went ahead and told the show's makers exactly how she was planning to end everything. They said, "eh, we'll do something totally different instead" and she said OK. The end result was rather underwhelming by comparison, true.

EDIT: Okay, done with ASOIAF until GRRM finally publishes the next one. Unless he dies of old age first, which is a distinct possibility.

Because the Dorne storyline has been the epitome of wonderful storytelling...

The whole Jayne instead of Sansa part would have been more interesting but I guess the show writters thought it would confuse casual viewers.

I like the Sansa to Winterfell storyline. (but we'll see if they really take advantage of it) The Brienne aspect, meh.

The Jaime one I'll reserve judgement until they've played it out. It has gotten some great Bron lines in.

The Jaime to Dorne and the Sansa to Winterfell storylines (which includes Brienne following her) are the only ones that the showrunners have created without any book underpinnings - even taking out Tyrion's boat journey to Volantis in favor of taking a carriage had the underpinning of Tyrion is traveling to Volantis. Both have been utterly woeful plotlines.

It would be just as easy to cherry pick scenes that were in the book. Some are better, some are the same and some are worse.

But yeah you are right about the recent Dorne ones.

I was on vacation and didn't watch this weeks episode until last night. I had already seen the uproar and was expecting a much more graphic depiction. They've done it much worse in the past.
If it had been any other character I doubt the uproar would have been so loud.

I have no trust they can actually tell a story removed from the underpinnings of the books.

Pure snobbery. I think they've done just fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to say they only fail when they don't follow the book is just silly.

I can understand it a bit, given how badly the show has fumbled the ball in regards to rape previously, but you have to let this play out before making a judgment, and no one is in a waiting mood nowadays.

As you pointed out, though, the show has fumbled the ball previously so no one really expects them to really do a good job here. Also consider how badly they ****ed up the storyline in Dorne, I have no trust they can actually tell a story removed from the underpinnings of the books.

I'm guessing they'd rather it had happened to Jeyne Poole than Sansa. I'd hope HBO would force them to leave the dogs out of the scene in that case though.
