Stark's sons- Having trouble telling them apart. Both annoying.

I'm having trouble telling apart that guy from the Iron islands who is not part of the family
and the oldest brother. In the scene in which they save Bran, I couldn't remember which
is which. This usually happens to me in WW II series. Took me halfway into Band of Brothers
and the Pacific to start telling actors apart.

Contradiction? Also, there are four Stark sons, three significant: Robb, bastard Jon Snow, and Bran, with little Rickon not much in evidence.

Meltyface Scowler and Big Angry Scowler- You know. The ones who show up at the jousts. Not sure what they're for. Don't have dialogue to speak of, but scowlling is nice. Scowling works.

Sandor Clegane, called the Hound, is the bodyguard of Prince Joffrey, who calls him Dog. I was disappointed that he didn't get to tell Sansa the story of how his brother, Ser Gregor, burned his face. In the book after a feast after one of the days of jousting, Joffrey asks Sansa if she needs an escort back to her chambers. She accepts, thinking her betrothed will accompany her, but he calls his Dog. He's a bit drunk and gets angry with her.

... Sansa could not bear the sight of him, he frightened her so, yet she had been raised in all the ways of courtesy. A true lady would not notice his face, she told herself. "You rode gallantly today, Ser Sandor," she made herself say.

Sandor Clegane snarled at her. "Spare me your empty little compliments, girl ... and your ser's. I am no knight. I spit on them and their vows. My brother is a knight. Did you see him ride today?"

"Yes," Sansa whispered, trembling. "He was ..."

"Gallant?" the Hound finished.

He was mocking her, she realized. "No one could withstand him," she managed at last, proud of herself. It was no lie.

Sandor Clegane stopped suddenly in the middle of a dark and empty field. She had no choice but to stop beside him. "Some septa trained you well. You're like one of those birds from the Summer Isles, aren't you? A pretty little talking bird, repeating all the pretty words they taught you to recite." pp. 301-2

He goes on to talk about how his brother deliberately killed Ser Hugh, former squire of Jon Arryn whom Lord Stark wanted to question. Newly knighted and with no squire, his gorget wasn't fastened properly, and Ser Gregor targeted his throat. Then Sandor makes Sansa take a good look at his face. "No pretty words for that, girl?" And he tells her what happened. She feels sad for him, loses her fear, and says, "He was no true knight," which amuses the Hound. Finally, when they part ways, he threatens to kill her if she tells anyone.

As for your next point? Try actually reading about the horse-based nomadic civilisations, such as the Mongols. Their religion, for example- Tengriism. It's a rich array of elemental pan-animism, with a complex mythology. "Great Stallion" my arse. It says a lot that this "fantasy" looks underwritten and dreary when compared to mere real-life equivalents.

horses are still a big part of the mongol culture. i didnt know a thing about tengriism but a quick google tells me they called the human soul "wind horse".

and again you seem to ask for details that there are no time for nor needed. it really comes of as "everyone likes this so i have to find faults".
ill give you that it isnt very logical to eat a horse heart nor have them as your main source for food. but in a good show like this there is no need to get hung up on details like that.

No. I'm asking for the copious points that are already there, and are variants of "horse", to be occasionally varied with something less equine.

Among readers of the books a LOT of people really hate the Dany sub-plot and skip it during rereads, so Laz really isn't alone in that even compared to people who read the books over and over. Personally I like the Dany subplot a lot since it's the sort of over the top stuff that belongs in a Conan story and I LIKE Conan stories.

I wonder what Laz will think about The Lord of Light

Personally one of my criticisms of the story is that until the later books the depictions of religion tend to be pretty damn shallow. It gets better (the fourth book nails religion) but not for a while.

no, stop beeing stupied. i dont give a **** if you hate the show or like it. but the dragon lady plot isnt as dumb as you try to make it. bit rushed maybe. but no where near "beyond parody"

Of course it's fine that you have an opinion about an aspect of the story - I just thought you were somewhat dramatically overstating it. Furthermore, I don't want to argue about it much beyond pointing out that you were making rather a fuss - albeit entertainingly as ever.

I would say that in Fantasy scenarios we are, by definition, required to suspend disbelief. If you think that the Horsey folks are overdoing the horsey aspect of things then is that really any less absurd than a bloke who thinks he's a dragon, a wall several hundred feet high, a winter that lasts a decade, or any other bizzaro devices? It's only pretend. :shrug:

Having finished the novel over my vacation in the hills, at the risk of spoiling things... you won't have to put up with this sort of thing for much longer.

well i choise to stick whit the tv show. not gona read the books no matter how much i want to. show is too good dont want to ruin it.
