  • Bristol Palin’s Nonprofit Paid Her Seven Times What It Spent On Actual Teen Pregnancy Prevention

There is a ton of fraud in the US nonprofit business with a seeming majority of "charities" designed to actually enrich the founder rather then actually do any actual charity work. Did you know that legally when you donate $1 to a charity only $0.01 has to be spent on the charity cause while the other $0.99 can be used on other stuff (like bloated salaries for the charity's founder)? We need to clean up the nonprofit sector to prevent this kind of out & out fraud.

Bristol Palin’s Nonprofit Paid Her Seven Times What It Spent On Actual Teen Pregnancy Prevention

In 2009, Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol joined a teen pregnancy prevention nonprofit called the Candie’s Foundation. Today, the Associated Press reported that the Candie’s Foundation released its 2009 tax information, revealing that Bristol was paid a salary of $262,500. But a closer examination of the tax form by ThinkProgress shows that the group disbursed only $35,000 in grants to actual teen pregnancy health and counseling clinics: $25,000 to the Mt. Sinai Adolescent Health Center and $10,000 to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. View a screenshot of Bristol’s exorbitant salary below:

What do you want to admit mommy showed her how to commit fraud like this? Also remember this next time a politicians says they gave suspect campaign donation money to "a charity" because usually it's a charity they created and head so it's equally ripe for abuse.

Just to be clear she paid herself $427,500 but the charity only gave out $35,000 in actual charitable donations. What a ****ing parasite and liar.

Good work if you can get it.

Now if only I could get pregnant and drop out of high school, umh. Would that qualify me for a US$265,000 job which seems to involve almost no work?

Isn't it amazing how much a teenage mother who I believe dropped out of high school can make on account of her mom? What is this kid going to do with all this money?

So... maybe they paid her not to get knocked up during her time with them. This would seem a fair rate a skank.

It's not her charity. She did not pay herself. It's likely that lots of celebs draw salaries for promoting a 'cause'. This charity may be a stinker (I'll wait till a better news organization investigates before I decide) but that doesnt mean she knew that. Time to grow up.

I'd like to see the 2008 and 2010 numbers. For all we know they gave out less in 2008 and were looking at how to improve it. Her involvement might have raised awareness enough that 2010 numbers were much higher than if she hadn't been involved. Her stint on DWTS gave a lot of publicity to that charity.

But having said all that, this does have a certain stench to it.

^This. If it had been George Clooney nobody would give a damn, because the point is that they're supposedly paying for the added publicity in not only this year but future years. It'd take a more long-term evaluation of her impact on contributions to see if this is remotely justifiable.

George Clooney doesn't show up pregant out of wedlock, then get married and divorced within a year, all while disingenuously promoting abstinence and "family values."

But Bristol Palin aside, I think handing out only $35K in actual charity vs. over $1.65 MM in total receivables qualifies as a pretty poor use of funds.

To answer RAH's question, here's the detail on revenues and expenses for 2009 and 2010 from their IRS Form 990...

                          You be the judge.

What does her being a hypocritical wench have to do with the sole issue at hand? Haven't you heard the old maxim "any publicity is good publicity"?
