      • Wait, Solomwi...

Why do you think it is okay.. nay, that companies should be encouraged... to deduct pay from an employee for drawer shortages? I want to see your reasoning.

You said incentivizing cashiers to not make mistakes. Why are these mistakes extraordinary enough for a business to warrant being addressed, as opposed to not common and inevitable losses from business operation? What is the extent of employee culpability for these losses? What is the reasoning for the existence of said culpability? Does this culpability extend to other losses? For example, a tradesman unintentionally breaks a piece of equipment; is he responsible for remunerating the value of the equipment? What, if any, differences exist if the losses were intentional? What if the losses exceed wages paid or result in employee compensation to be below federal minimum wage rates?

        Humor me.

It's just that I noticed how callously Solomwi shrugged the state law of at least two states (PA and CA) and probably every state in the country as 'stupid laws'. Generally, when I'm presented with something like "it's illegal to do what I think is okay/right", I pause and try to figure out why. I could still be right and the laws could very well be stupid, but there's enough smart people who came up with these laws that there has to be some sense to them, even if it was misguided. When someone else has a position that is contrary to law, well, it's natural for me to take the law as the default and want a bit more than just "stupid laws, what else is new?" from the contrarian position.

So I want to tease out and examine Solomwi's rationale for his position. I'm hoping he will entertain me.

Central Michigan was CMU first Plus it's several times larger.
Irrelevant. Carnegie Mellon is infinitely superior, just because I went there.

It's a better school, no doubt.

I'm just bringing up that the way your brother just mocked and laughed at it was uncalled for. Central Michigan is older and has almost 4 times the undergraduate population of Carnegie Mellon. Central Michigan also uses CMU heavily in their marketing, logo, sports teams, etc. which it doesn't appear that Carnegie Mellon does.

I think your brother's response exposes his own ignorance

There is a Temple College in South Australia, certainly the most real of the "real" Temple Colleges.

                    • Here, Kuci, in response to me saying that to be honest, when I first saw CMU, I assumed Central Michigan.

Yeah. And Central Michigan is older, 4x as large, and uses CMU heavily in its logo, marketing, etc. It is not laughable for someone to initially assume CMU is Central Michigan. I think HC underestimated the size or fame of Central Michigan.

But none of this is important or relevant anyway...

                          • Does anyone who attended Carnegie Mellon actually say CMU when referring to their school? Do people claim to be from HU (Harvard) or PU (Princeton)? I think not. You can't convince me that Carnegie Mellon alumnae are so unpretentious that they'd risk people mistaking their education for something learned in Michigan.
