Did you ever take a person less seriously because of their accent?

Exactly. It's only respectable to you because you've personally known people with a New York accent so you know to look past it. You meet some more intelligent people from Jersey and Philly and you would say the same things. Aint no never or no way."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

But why would an intelligent person live in Jersey or Philly long enough to get an accent? Why would an intelligent person retain the accent if they ever had one?"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Funny, when I working at the county hospital they have a lot of out of state doctors from the east coast. This MD was talking to me and this nurse from Nigeria. After he left, she ask me to repeat what he said because she could not understand his accent. I laughed because I could not understand him either. She was shocked that Americans could not understand each other.

I'd rather have Tom Brokaw or Dan Rather be the voice of America as opposed to say Rudy Guiliani.
Interestingly enough Brian Williams of NBC is from Ridgewood, NJ.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

And yes, Asher, it is WRONG.
It's accent discrimination. It's covered in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as pertaining to national origin."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
