To make a somewhat idealistic point, EVERYTHING is impossible, until someone decides to do it.
In other words, 400 years ago, the technology of modern society was impossible, inconceivable. And yet, here we are.
I get it - that's not a scientific argument. I'm just saying, the fact that we can't understand how something could be possible does not preclude the possibility that it is possible. Secondly, we would need to find a habitable planet. Said planet might have life forms that were hostile. Think of the Terran germs in "War of the Worlds" that wiped out all of the Martian invaders.
