I have survived my second annual thinning of the herd
Yes, there is a federal wage but each state has a different cost of living.
But states are free to set their own minimum wage above the federal one.
The federal one is $7.25/hr by the way. It was only $5.15 a few years ago. Quite a big jump.

Texas uses the federal $7.25, as does PA and the majority of states.
It is as high as $8.67 in Washington state though.

Oh nevermind I get it. LA doesn't have a state wage but the federal applies.

My state is at-will, and I'm cool with that. The way I figure, I sell my labor, and my employer either buys it or not. In the same way that I'll jump ship and leave for a better job, they should be free to cut me loose and higher a better employee. It sucks to lose a job, but as long as it's not your fault you can collect unemployment and keep on getting high all the same.

This is why I was confused. I saw something on the Seattle TV stations I get about raising the state minimum wage.

Green: States with minimum wage rates higher than the Federal rate.
Blue: States and territories with minimum wage rates the same as the Federal rate.
Yellow: States with no minimum wage law.
It's outdated though. The red states should be blue now, I think.
As you can see, it's not just Texas. Most of America doesn't have state minimum wages higher than the federal.

Good job on not getting cut, KH.
3 of the guys should have been fired. One was fired because his manager didn't like him (despite the fact that he was the second most useful person in their group).
It's funny, because the manager sets the tone of the group, but if his group gets hit with cuts he also gets to decide what people he keeps.
I have a feeling this guy won't be a manager for long.
The U.S. Department of Labor enforces the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which sets basic minimum wage and overtime pay standards. These standards are enforced by the Department's Wage and Hour Division. Minimum Wage The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour for workers covered by the FLSA.
The FLSA does not, however, require severance pay, sick leave, vacations, or holidays.
The FLSA does not address nonproduction cash bonuses, payments that are not production-based. These bonuses are generally a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative).
Exactly what I was saying. Mandating nonproduction payments make no sense to me.

What didn't you understand about "I will take your word for this"?
Jeez... I was just helping you out, good brother, by substantiating what I claimed for your own personal illumination. Peace, homie.
