I have survived my second annual thinning of the herd
The whole idea of "fired for cause" vs "fired just because" is ridiculous.
I support paying two weeks and accrued vacation because:
1) employees as a courtesy usually give at least two weeks
2) if you don't pay accrued vacation there are poor incentives
In general, I think it should be easy to fire people, and nothing beyond what I've delineated is necessary. If companies want to compensate fired employees beyond this in order to avoid hut feelings and possible associated damage then it should be up to them.
Employment laws exist at federal and state levels. e.g. OSHA.
This is genuinely surprising. I thought the US was all about state power?
Minimum wage is provincial here.

It's provincial, not federal. So it's not "Canadian". It varies by province.

Yes, there is a federal wage but each state has a different cost of living.
This is the main reason the concept of a federal minimum wage is ridiculous.
