There is a federal minimum wage.

Employment laws/regulations/etc. exist at federal and state levels. e.g. OSHA.

    • The whole idea of "fired for cause" vs "fired just because" is ridiculous.

I support paying two weeks and accrued vacation because:

      1) employees as a courtesy usually give at least two weeks
      2) if you don't pay accrued vacation there are poor incentives

In general, I think it should be easy to fire people, and nothing beyond what I've delineated is necessary. If companies want to compensate fired employees beyond this in order to avoid hut feelings and possible associated damage then it should be up to them.

This is genuinely surprising. I thought the US was all about state power?

          Minimum wage is provincial here.

It's provincial, not federal. So it's not "Canadian". It varies by province.

I don't know specifically because I've never cared to. I would doubt it.

May have got that if we still had unions.

State power went away when people tried to use it protect slavery. It died its final death when people tried to use it to protect Jim Crow.

                          • The Canadian federal government is mostly a transfer payments organization.

The direct involvement of the federal government is much heavier in the US.

Yes, there is a federal wage but each state has a different cost of living.
