The NDP won 2 seats in Newfoundland and ran second in all but Goodale's riding in Saskatchewan. Nice try, though.

But they also won in Atlantic Canada as well. The conservatives are the only party who won seats in every single province. Despite the much ballyhooed rise of the NDP, they won seats in fewer provinces than the Liberals (none in PEI, Newfoundland and Saskatchewan).

I don't see what's so special about the number of provinces in which a party wins seats. I'm no expert in Canadian politics but I'm pretty sure it's the total number of seats that's relevant.
