For every combat soldier in the field, there are 10 support personnel.
Any profession in civilian life is needed in the military. You can choose your area and wait for a slot to open up, rather than going in "Open". That's Officer or Enlisted. In the Air Force, you have to pass an aptitude test in a broad scope. Mechanical, Electrical, Clerical and General. I went in Open and got assigned to Base Supply with a score of 90 in General, which included Base Supply.
Unless you have a college degree when you enlist, you go in as Enlisted, not Officer.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
