Given that I hold a PhD in physics and am married to a woman who is literally an expert in the public health effects of radiation exposure I think I might know a little more about this than you do.

By the way, my wife is a certified health physicist and medical physicist. She has 8 years of experience in radiation safety, diagnostic imaging and radio oncology. She seems to think that a partial meltdown (which may be what has happened here) is not particularly worrisome...
Does she even know what radiation did to the Fantastic Four or The Hulk?

As long as reactor integrity is maintained the radiological implications of gaseous emissions should be minimal and dispersed.

          • Ask you wife what the long term effects of radiation are on the human body. Will Godzilla be effected by extra radiation doses?

No, you ******. If you will take a look at the quote of yours which I responded to, it was the latest in a series of posts branching from your claim that "no amount of radiation is safe". This claim is idiotic.

The question of what is going on with the plant currently is less certain, which is why I was much more polite to germanos than I was with you.

                Idiot.

The assesment now is that the incident is less severe then Harrisburg. But it could well be far less severe or more severe. Nobody knows. And more and more reactors are showing problems.
Then there is the fact that the thing blew up. That didn't happen in Harrisburg. So the assessment it's a lower event is premature. They are cooling it with seawater. Where is that going? Out in the sea supposedly.

If things stay as they are I agree that probably the healthrisks/effects are minimal. For which I hope and keep my fingers crossed.

                    • In your best PHD knowledge about nuclear plants ..how will they dispose of the plant cores now that they are inoperable?
Will the people be able to return to the area to live around the now dysfunctional plants?

Precisely. A full-on meltdown where you completely lose containment is obviously much more serious. However, I see no reason that they won't be able to maintain temps at a reasonable level given how much time has passed without a critical breech.

Ask the good people of Harrisburg. I've driven by TMI dozens of times.

I know that's why I wanted to compare notes. I know admittedly little on physiological effects save for training courses.
