Military Tradition is not a bad thing in itself... but the rivalries for budget... resourses... missions... and just general lack of cooperation is just killing our military.

You can't build Cavalry without it.

I remember when they were fighting over aircraft. The F-16 and F-15 cannot land on carriers. The Tomcat and Hornet was selected for the Navy.
Just like the Japs in WWII with there army navy rivalries.
        BTY
Before the US Air Force came into being it was controlled by the Army.

No, frankly I found the whole notion silly as soon as I first heard of them and what they do as a youngster. Why don't we just keep a few brigades of dragoons, sappers, and petraries too out of respect for "tradition"?

Crossfit might not even be mentioned but if it sounds remotely like Crossfit to Drake, he makes a comment like "Stupid Crossfit nonsense".
...or perhaps he just happened to come across the wiki's discussion of those perceived dangers and knew, with you being you, that it would be fertile trolling material...
          Unbelievable!

              A) Fixed.

              B) Even in the unlikely event that we're in a conflict in the foreseeable future that requires troops to do what the name "marine" implies, a portion of the Army can be trained to do just that, just like a portion of the non-special-forces Army go through the airborne course.

You don't see airborne divisions being a part of the Department of the Air Force merely because planes carry them, do you? Then why are marines so different? Bull**** addiction to romantic notions of an honorable tradition, nothing more.

Oh yes, the Brit making statements about outdated military units! Ironic from the British who still have cavalry/dragoons

Best military unit ever. Don't be a hater.

                      Army. Typical.

And this thread was about just that... that the Army is way behind the times.

Wow, the Army has an armored division with an old-school name. Meanwhile, the Marines have an obsolete entirety. Seriously, what on earth do they have that adds to basic infantry other than supposedly being more badass, which is what special forces are for? I'm still deeply confused.

Yup. Corps has basically been Army Jr in A-stan and Iraq. The USMC should be reduced in size so that they are nothing but offshore troubleshooters and the rent-a-cops for the USNs nukes.
