But if you want to make fun of how "stupid" I am I guess you can do that.
I don't mind discussing things with people. What I mind is them being utterly clueless about some subject and attempting to give the impression that they know something. They often use buzzwords and describe their jobs in grandiose terms with no basis in reality.

      For example, this quote.

Have you ever written a nontrivial MC generator? Do you know any variance reduction techniques? Do you know why they work? Have you implemented some of them? If your answer to these questions is "no" then offering commentary on the quality of my response is mere narcissism.

If you want to understand part of what I said better, or you want to understand how some related issue you've heard about fits in then you should ask a question. Not interject an uninformed opinion into a discussion where you are outclassed.

I think he just confused this for 3 card monte.

3 card Monte is a trivial game theoretic problem with mixed equilibrium strategy.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

The answer to those questions is "yes" but I haven't really studied this stuff since college and my college courses were interrupted by personal things. If I am treading on your "turf" then I am sorry and from now on I will only talk about my "code monkey" stuff.

Now you're a liar in addition to an ignoramus.

Now you're a liar in addition to an ignoramus. Nobody who has studied MCs hears the term MC and thinks game theory.

You might want to find out what he means by "studied".

There's a chance the time travelers may be involved in this.

"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." - Mark Twain

In all fairness, I think of games when I think of Monte Carlo. Also James Bond.

Study as in took a course in college several years ago. Not everyone remembers everything they did in college. Man you really need to cool off. I don't know if maybe you get something out of this, which I guess is okay for you, but if you're trying to make me angry or hurt my self esteem or something it's not going to work. I already told you people that I am here for the discussion and I don't really care who has the bigger "e penis" or whatever.

So now your claim is that you haven't always been ignorant; you worked at it?

What exactly is your degree in, son?

Trust me, haha, if you'd been through the things I've been through, you'd forget some stuff, too.

Yah. This is very true in my experience. But don't let it get you down MC, I thought you've made a very valuable contribution to this thread that really brings back the memory of my younger days. Back then I preferred more hard-core math myself, but did sometimes go for the gambling type stuff as well.

Thank you, Sox, for making this thread much more amusing than I did.
