It's not clear how much time was wasted on this. Probably less time than we've spent discussing it. Now, their timing is pretty poor, and it's stupid, but in all likelihood this wasted one to five minutes of the legislature's time. There are no doubt much more egregious examples of waste out there.

Uhmn, I bet they used days to decide wich gun that should be elected as the state gun - that is after they had thrown out the single person that claimed it was a stupid idea

I actually think this is a fun idea, as far as wasteful and stupid government endeavors go. Even better would be legislation to determine the "State Main Battle Tank".

It is a myth that the Colt revolver helped settle the West. There's no reason why the Native Americans should have rolled over like they did.

People that are interested in something usually have their specific "best thing" - bet that gun lovers also have their pet gun that they would try to promote as a "state gun"

If you meant the throwing out of one that would consider it stupid, well, I assume that there are some few sane americans. (pls, gimme some hope )

Perhaps with a six shooter as a state gun future gunmen may be swayed to use less effective weapons.

The bird is mocking the 'State this or that'.

And having a Dutch/Mexican/Chilian/Guadelupean "State Symbol" I find strange, yes.
