  • Arizona joins Utah in wasting taxpayers money by passing legislation to determine the State Gun

    Christ.

Arizona to declare a state gun

Arizona, where a gunman killed six people last month, is moving to proclaim a state gun.

The state Senate Appropriations Committee voted 9-4 early Wednesday to go ahead with the bill, which has 43 sponsors, the Associated Press reported.

In a state already criticized for lax gun laws, the legislators want to honour the 19th century Colt Single Action Army Revolver because it was instrumental in “settling the Arizona Territory.”

On Tuesday, new photographs were released of Jared Loughner, who is accused of opening fire at a community event Jan. 8, killing six people and injuring others, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who is recovering from a bullet to her head.

The bill notes Arizona already has a state fossil (petrified wood); a state bird (the cactus wren); a state flower (the pure white waxy flower of the Saguaro cactus); a state tree (the Palo Verde); state neckwear (the Bola tie); a state gemstone (turquoise); state animals (the ringtail, the Arizona ridgenose rattlesnake, the Arizona trout and the Arizona tree frog); a state insect (the two-tailed swallowtail butterfly) and a state nickname (the Grand Canyon State).

Only one other U.S. state has moved to adopt an official firearm. Utah legislators have passed a bill making the Browning M1911, a semi-automatic pistol, the Utah state gun.

They can always cut spending to education to fund this kind of stuff.

I'm not sure this would cost a whole lot of money but it is just plain nutty.

This all started with state birds!

            Whose idea was that?!

Wikipedia tells me Arizona was the last state to select their state bird. Maybe they're now trying to be the first at everything.

State song "Pennsylvania" (formerly "Hail, Pennsylvania!" until 1990)[110]
              State dance Polka

              State beautification plant Crown vetch[110]
              State soil Hazleton[111

State SOIL?! State electric locomotive? Steam locomotive? State toy? State tree and flower but also need a beautification plant?

Every US state (and PR and the Virgin Islands) has a state soil, though only 20 have been legislatively established:

                  No state gun.

                  However,
                  http://www.newser.com/story/79442/pennsylvania-pol-lobbies-for-state-gun.html

Now state senator Pat Browne wants Pennsylvania to be the first state to have an official state firearm. The Lehigh County Republican is sponsoring a bill that would give the honor to the Pennsylvania Long Rifle.

I said 'all this **** and more' but was exaggerating a bit.

I can see several possibilities here :

                    State baton
                    State tazer
                    State prison
                    State homosexual
                    State nutty
                    State serial killer
                    State nipple
                    State road

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Legislatures do this all the time, they pass these resolutions with unanimous consent (i.e. they don't even hold a complete vote) and it's usually to placate some random constituent who sent his representative a letter. Who cares?

People who favour small, responsible governments should care.

That's a complete nonsequitor. What does this have to do with limited government? It's a ****ing state symbol. It's not like they created a Department of Interfering With Your Life and appointed an Douchebag General to the governor's cabinet.

A government that spends its time on such nonsense is a government wasting time. Time is money.

There are much bigger fish to fry. It's a sign of an irresponsible government.

The Department of Homeland Security already exists.
