  • Republicans just love big government.

For all the talk about "small government conservatives" they never ever decrease the size of government and always demand the government get more involved in people's private lives. They just want government to get bigger in places they like; remember that next time some wing nut starts ranting about "the constitution" or "smaller government".

So anyway Texas is being dumb, as usual, and is repassing a sodomy law which the SCotUS has already thrown out for being unconstitutional. If that wasn't enough of a waste of tax payer dollars they're also passing laws to outlaw gay marriage (which is already illegal in Texas but Republicans so badly want people to know they oppose it they're outlawing it a second time), to criminalize priests who marry homosexual couples even though such marriage ceremonies aren't legally binding in Texas, and they want to outlaw oral sex for both straights and gays (the SCotUS has also ruled laws against oral sex are unconstitutional). So when a Republican rants about their supposed love of the constitution and small government please remember what they actually do when they're in power; pass laws the SCotUS have already said are unconstitutional and expand government to put government into people's bedrooms.

Y'know, Oerdin, I'm all for gay rights, I find the kind of laws you're talking about repellent, and I'm no fan of the Republican party...but your attitude still makes me want to give you a big Popeye-style windup punch to the balls. I think I may actually go into anaphylactic shock from your overwhelming snarkiness.

Say, Oerdin. Why does the state of Texas have twice the rate of population growth as the national average?

What is your problem Elok? You get unreasonably upset about these kinds of things. I thought it was ridiculous that you didn't like "Wall-E" because you thought it was too preachy. I'm saying this, the problem isn't Oerdin, the movies, or celebrities. The problem is you.

I don't understand what it has to do with Oerdin's post.

I just prefer to point out how ridiculous their arguments are, not get hung up about how they dress. I can enjoy a movie that may have some lingering conservative themes but is still a good movie. And I can appreciate people getting upset when their basic rights are being denied to them. I guess I'm just able to acknowledge the differences in each situation.

Then you're an idiot, which I already knew. This is just another in a long list of examples.

I was hoping that you could explain it to me. Please.

Thing is, Oerdin doesn't sound upset about people's basic rights so much as gleeful that he's so much more clever than the redum-dumlicans, or whatever lame slur he's using now. Whether he's right or not is immaterial to the obnoxiousness of his attitude. As for Wall-E, are you denying that the best part of the movie was the first half, where it was just a cute robot love story? Then came GREEDY CORPORATIONS MAKE AMERICANS FAT, which would have been less objectionable if it had been clever and/or interesting. But it wasn't. They made the humans so repulsive and stupid that it was extremely difficult to connect emotionally with them or care about their fate. Yes, a lot of critics loved the movie, but I submit to you that a lot of critics are sufficiently liberal that they agreed enthusiastically with the Naomi Klein hackery and didn't notice how it dragged the movie down.

In the first half of Wall-E, humans ruin the earth. In the second half of Wall-E, humans ruin the movie.

                            I still loved it though.

Maybe for you. However, not just critics loved the movie. It was a commercial success. You're argument is absurd because you are complaining that the movie had conflict. Time and again, I've seen you criticize films for having the basic components of good storytelling. Every time you write a review for something, I groan at how out of touch you are with those aspects and how you somehow believe that your feelings are shared by the rest of the audience despite enormous evidence to the contrary.
