No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Mine does, but the cats don't use it much. That may be why when the weather is warm they cry at the door to go outside to get their version of massive bandwidth for sensory satisfaction.

I have two cats that have been indoors since birth and neither one ever cries to get out.

What are you doing to your poor kitties NYE?

Their mother and the farm they were born on did it to them, I think. I did not discourage them though.

If there were children involved, or an SO was the primary bond and could not handle it I would probably have done it differently. However, it's just myself and I considered whether I would be selfish to deprive them to prevent the possibility of loss for myself. Wanting them to be as happy as possible kitties won at some risk (and expense) to myself.

Luckily, they are not wanderers and they are people shy. They go out and stick around the immediate area. Then they come back to check in and may want to go out again. Then they come back, etc., until ~9PM or darkness and then I keep them in.

My last cat was indoor/outdoor and it was awful when younger. He was forever trying to sneak out as an mature cat. Eventually he succeeded and it was the end of him.

My current cats were raised indoor and now they give the look of the cat in Sloww's pic. They are scared of outside and have no desire to go out.

for kitties who experience a premature end.

for kitties gamboling in the grass, climbing trees, and playing chase with each other.

I may be moving soon, so depending on where I move to they may become indoor only cats. Where I live now does not have heavy traffic nearby, and that was a factor in the decision to allow them out.

Many towns are passing bylaws to prohibit kitty roaming.

i've lost my cat i decided to let her outside when i was at work so that she could become used to the outside world, but she's disappeared and no one has seen her. there's a big group of cats who hang around nearby but she's not with them and i asked the neighbours but they didn't know anything (well at least the ones who didn't look at me as if i was a crazy person), so i'm a bit stumped.

Have you checked in with the animal shelter? It's a possibility. If and when you get her back, there's really no reason for her to become used to the outside world.

                          Have you had a lobotomy?

Indoor cats can't survive in the real world. They just don't have the life experience to know not to jump into the wood chipper when they finally get free. They're kind of like Polocks in that respect.

The video in the OP shows how far domestic animals really are from their wild ancestors. There are several African and Asian wild cats the size of domestic house cats which would have ripped out the throat and eaten a new born deer if it had found one like that house cat had found one. Instead, kitty made a mpint of stalking up to the baby deer, instinct seems to still be around at least, but as soon as kitty got up behind the baby deer kitty didn't have a clue what to do so s/he just sniffed the deer and proceeded to rube up against the deer. Kitty seems to think food comes out of a can where as a wild cat knows food is when you kill another animal and eat it.

The domestic dog was even worse. It was large enough for the momma deer to take as a threat but since domestic dogs are breed to be docile it didn't try to fight back or even run away. At least the cat knew enough to run away. The domestic dog which gets beaten tends to roll over, exposing it's belly and throat, which works well in dog society or in domestic situations but doesn't come close to doing well when a wild animal is trying to kill the dog. That dog literally didn't have an aggressive bone in its body and didn't know enough to run away.
