  • Redundancy...

Well guys, I have received my official notice of redundancy today. I must say though I am feeling quite buoyant though. I will be "out on my arse" on the 31st March but they have to give me 3 months pay due to notice requirements (from today), plus redundancy pay, so I will be fine and I have enough money in the bank to keep me going for a very long time (although I'd rather leave my house deposit money alone). This is because the UK office of the company I work for are being closed. It never did so well, all of my work came via the Swiss office anyway.

I'm not remotely worried though. I have an interview next week for a job in Manchester, perfect skill/experience fit for a lot more money than I am currently on which is my preferred lead.

But also I know that my previous client (I worked with them for nearly 2 years) are also pretty keen on getting their hands on me for a project they have but that would involve emigration to Switzerland which I am still contemplating.

And also the German office of my company want to keep me on too, I am very well regarded by them. I don't know how that would work, I think on a freelance basis from my perspective (as I would be working for clients in Germany for a German company but domicile in the UK, the tax issues are a minefield).

And other leads at a somewhat more embryonic stage.

So although I am being made redundant, I see this as a positive thing from my perspective - it gives me an incentive to look for other opportunities, and there are good opportunities with sh*tloads of cash.

Getting out of the sciences was the best choice I ever made!

Yeah, don't seem to be having a problem finding potential leads, and because they are paying me redundancy plus notice in lieu it's probably going to be the case of being handed a chunk of cash from my old employers and moving onto a new one for a sizeable pay rise.

ps. Don't accept a job before the redundancy is final, or they can stitch you up on payment. They probably won't, but better safe than sorry!

All the best, PH. On my course there's an option of taking an external SAP module & Exam for £500 instead of the usual £5000 but I decided not to. I don't want to travel, and SAP jobs tend to spray people all over the place. Pretty ****ing boring as well, by the look of it.

Yeah, this is going to require a bit of fine judgement...I need the job to begin at the start of April ideally. But I don't have the job yet anyway but if I get it offered with an early start (I think they want someone fairly quickly) that is going to require some dealing with. But the reason came about is that my boss is leaving anyway and my boss is pretty cool too so I think we can work on a solution to this problem if it occurs.

I don't think there is much to overcome my friend. I sort of knew this was coming for a while, and my skills are in high demand, so I will be fine. In fact I am enjoying the relax at the moment after a very busy two years (a great two years - an international implementation all over the world - Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, Italy and Switzerland ). I am very optimistic and I have enough assets where I can continue living at my current standard of living for a very long time if it comes to that (which I highly doubt).

Yeah, this is my reservation. It is very nice and all - high standard of living, good pay (albeit f**king ludicrously expensive to balance that out, makes London look cheap) - but a bit boring. I quite liked visiting there but I don't think I could do with living there. Hence I have not jumped on the opportunity.

Depends. I love my job...I'm damn good at what I do, gives me plenty of challenges both technically and business-wise, get to meet lots of cool people and see the world. Different horses for different courses I suppose.

To continue this though Oncle Boris, I would like to know your experience with Switzerland - it is all useful for me making a balanced decision.

I work with SAP (big database system, it's German - the system corporations use to manage logistics, finance, HR, etc), QM module expert (particular area of the system in logistics - I deal with the Quality Assurance stuff in it such as batch release, testing and analysis, deviation management) but I do know a lot of other areas of the system in considerable detail (plant maintenance, inventory and warehouse management, production planning, purchasing, sales and distribution, etc, etc, the whole integration of logistics is important to me in my job so I need an overview of the whole of SAP ERP logistics) and also do a spot of development stuff (ABAP and Workflow). I am a senior consultant with my present company.
