Ok, that one looks bad. It is possible that the suspect was resisting after the initial contact, but even if he was it was probably just reactionary to protect himself. In any case, it clearly looks like a case of excessive force.

The suspect did well to walk to the squad car after being hit by a car, kicked, stamped and punched.

It was definitely excessive. The guy couldn't get that far on foot, no need to hit him with the car and after that he was submissive and there were a tonne of cops.

It’s clear from the video that the subject had actually surrendered, and the officers still decided to use excessive force.

Yikes! if they're "Houston's finest", what are Houston criminals like?

Edit: Need some more "eek" smileys.

it was kinda funny in a morbid sorta way to see guys showing up late, even guys in street clothes, getting their kicks and punches in

Kinda like that scene in Airplane where everyone takes turns slapping and punching that hysterical woman

No offense, but I really can't see any problem here. There are no sound on the video so I guess that the criminal uttered profanities to wich these fine offcers of the law had to respond to - even police officers can be pushed over the limit, so he just got what he deserved

Indeed. When he realised he was trapped he might have muttered "Oh sh*t" thus warranting a good bashing to correct his language.

Well, I was more like "oh, ****, it hurts like ****" when he was hit by the car, so the police certainly had reason to protect the public against such profanities

I'm sure driving cars into people is approved by the Houston Police Regulations. It is an effective way to stop people. Not good as running over someone with a big truck but good enough.
