Who's going to win the Religion: Real or fake thread?
Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy. We've got both kinds
Socrates: "Good is That at which all things aim, If one knows what the good is, one will always do what is good." Brian: "Romanes eunt domus"
GW 2013: "and juistin bieber is gay with me and we have 10 kids we live in u.s.a in the white house with obama"
It has occurred to me that that thread had served one useful purpose. It kept Kid away from all the others. Now he's appeared here it's time to leave this one.
Show me where Jesus is snarky. And he has harsh words for the Pharisees, but name-calling? Not even close. (Hint: telling people what they are in a calm manner to illustrate a bigger point or make them realize things about themselves is not "name calling")
Heck, there is even a twitter persona called SnarkyJesus:
http://twitter.com/snarkyjesus
Because it is funny to imagine Jesus as being snarky.
Most of the world would be HIGHLY OFFENDED if Jesus were to speak to our religious leaders and governmental leaders in the same way He did two thousand years ago. But I am but a novice at sarcasm; Jesus was a Master.
I fully realize that my papers grind on the spirits of those who oppose God’s Word. And well they should. When I quote the Scriptures, I quote them with authority, because the Scriptures ARE authority:
"For He [Jesus] taught them as one having AUTHORITY and not as the scribes" (Matt. 7:29).
Jesus got His authority from His Father, and He used it. In fact, the very words He spoke were the words of His Father, and not His own (John 17:8), hence the Father too uses sarcasm and anger in teaching.
Our God and Lord have more personality than most have ever imagined. What a broad range of colorful metaphors, parables, and colloquialisms they used. Add to these sarcasm, exaggeration, satire, irony, and true anger, and we have powerful, powerful persuasive language.
Example: John 15:7 "there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."
It's sad that people don't actually know Jesus.
How about Paul?
1 Cor 4:8 "Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you! 9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. "
What about the OT?
1 Kings 22:15-16 "15 And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we refrain?” And he answered him, “Go up and triumph; the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.” 16 But the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”"

Example: John 15:7 "there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."
What in the world is sarcastic about that?
How about Paul?
1 Cor 4:8 "Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you! 9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. "
I'm pretty sure you are reading that wrong.
1 Cor 4:14-16:
"14 I am writing this not to shame you but to warn you as my dear children. 15 Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me."
Paul is writing the facts that in Corinth those who call themselves Christians have puffed themselves up and are rich and powerful, but they don't really follow what they should be following. the Corinth Christians are powerful of the world, while the apostles are weak in the world, but the apostles are powerful in spirit. Read what comes before and afterwards in 1 Corinthians.
And how is that sarcastic?
1 Kings 23:
" 23 “So now the LORD has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you."
Which is why the Prophet Micaiah lied and King Jehoshaphat knew it.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
You're entitled to your opinion. But please don't just buy into this commonly held idea that Christians are suppose to be only positive. negativity is very important.
1 Kings 22:15-16 ; It's sarcastic because he uses the same words as the false prophets.

You believe that you're helping the cause of Christianity by driving people away from it? You believe that you're helping the state of your soul by wallowing in spiritual filth?
sar·casm /ˈsɑrkæzəm/ Show Spelled
[sahr-kaz-uhm] Show IPA
–noun
1. harsh or bitter derision or irony.
2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.
Doesn't help your argument. It's meant as it is on its face. No irony about it. I mean, seriously, Kid, this is standard Biblical hermanetics on that passage.

Because God told him that the King should be headed for disaster. He wasn't being sarcastic, but also trying to get the King to go to battle to be defeated.

Paul did employ a fair amount of sarcasm (in the commonest sense of the word, ie words written with an intent directly opposed to their literal meaning). The thing is, it was tempered sarcasm; he always made clear his affection and concern for the people he was writing to--communities he had founded personally, in most cases.
As for Jesus--nuh-uh. Furious condemnation in many cases, but always very direct condemnation. The man did not do subtle when he was expressing disapproval.

grrrrlpower?
If it is to be perfect it must be cleansed of the filth. That's what the negativity is for.

If you can't seen the irony in there being more joy in heaven over one sinner repenting than in ninety-nine righteous persons not needing repentance then you clearly do not know what irony is.

I don't get how some Christians think you can constantly insult people without judging them. If you insult someone you are implicitly making a judgment of their behavior...

This is stupid on it's face. Shall I turn to the parables?
