Never lost a war, either. No other country is as badass. America tries to compensate with guns and Hummers, but we all know what they're compensating for.

I may be the only one, but that was good

5pm on Thursday when I'm taking tomorrow off (thus, virtual Friday) may mean the bar is set low, but hey...

You're not worried about the definition of death, but you are proposing we use the definition of death as the basis of the definition of life?

I underestimated how ****ed up and religiously repressed the US was. I won't let it happen again.

Fine, I did my homework, and found here that "§ 1. [Determination of Death]. An individual who has sustained either (1) irreversible cessation of circulatory and respiratory functions, or (2) irreversible cessation of all functions of the entire brain, including the brain stem, is dead. A determination of death must be made in accordance with accepted medical standards."

Based on that a fetus with brain activity and active circulatory [or] respiratory functions meets all the criteria for a living human being. A fetus reaches that point by 12 weeks. Do you have anything else to say, or are you going to stand by your prior rejection of fundamental human rights to a living human being?

Should people without children do anything about child abuse?

                  Well, there you go.

A fetus doesn't breathe. Problem solved.

Does too. Fetuses undergo cellular respiration, they just get their oxygen from the mother. And it's this definition of death and life that we are specifically taking issue with--using them to support your claim is tautological.

You're right. Clearly my own definition requires revision. "An individual who has sustained either (1) irreversible cessation of circulatory and respiratory functions ... is dead." [emphasis added] Since a fetus still has a functioning circulatory system, it's still alive. I'll go ahead and fix that.

The presence of an umbilical cord is, unfortunately, not part of the definition of life.
