Well I suppose they are quite similar to pasties in many ways...

      Hand held pasties.

        Now that's what I call a pasty.

Now this is what I call a sandwich

            Indeed.

Just to clarify, I didn't actually eat any of that sandwich in the end!

I thought pasties were those frilly things strippers use to cover their nipples?

This could probably give you kind of a reputation :

                        No. Sounds tasty though

No more than "eating a sweet pie".

As to the OP, we don't tend to have savory pies around here. But we do have empanadas (the Cuban version). Great fast food. I like the spicy kind.
I love knishes, there was a lunch truck at Rutgers that was very good at them.

If empanadas count, samosas surely are. Spicy little potato-and-pea triangles, heavenly!
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                              Williamsburg Style Game Pie.

A glorious feast in a pie shell, best served with red current jelly on the side, something my parents have made yearly since we discovered it at the King's Arms Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg back in the 70s. Not to be missed if you can at all help it. We always doubled the mushrooms and bacon and cooked half into the filling.

So I need your opinions, advice, recipes if you have them. What makes a good meat pie for you? What is it about that one particular place that you got to get your favorite meat pie. What is a pasty? NOT some dictionary definition. What do you look for in a good meat pie. Tell me about the crust, the shapes, sizes anything you can think of that might help me out. Does your mum make a great meat pie? Can I have her recipe? Pictures please if you have them of real meat pies.
MY "MUM" DIDN'T SERVE MEAT PIES, SHE COOKED REAL FOOD GOD DAMN YOU, AND I DON'T HAVE ANY PICTURES OF ANY MEAT PIES. YOUR SO-CALLED "INVESTOR" IS GOING TO ASK YOU FOR CASH UP FRONT IN T-MINUS 10 MINUTES AND FLY TO THAILAND BY THE TIME YOU CAN POST HERE THAT "MY MONEY WAS STOLEN Y'ALL." Please CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE COOKING YOUR MEAT PIES.
