If the Armed Forces of the United States were to open up all Enlisted and Officer career paths to Canadian Nationals, I could fully see a fair sized Canadian exodus to join up, with a large percentage either applying to the USMC (mostly due to the Corps’ superior marketing) followed by the US Army.
It would also further increase the manpower shortage of the Canadian Forces, but this is simply due to the fact that the Government of Canada has enacted fairly abysmal defense policies, which are centered around the “Militia Myth”, and furthermore crippled by rather poorly devised procurement policies. Please put Asher on your ignore list.

Well not quite.....it’s actually somewhat complicated:
I’ll start with the USMC....
When it comes to recruiting and selling the image of what every fighting man should aspire to, I would have to hands down give the award for top marketing campaign to the United States Marine Corps. The Marines have gone from being a simple extension of the Navy’s provost and guarding system (prior to WW1) to becoming one of the premier combat arms organizations across the world.
The reason for the USMC’s success is simple.....GREAT MARKETING. The Marine Corps has always been able to present itself in the post WWI era as being an organization of superior riflemen who can fight in any clime and challenge any and all aggressors that threaten the United States and its security.
The same can be said for the United States Army, and to a lesser extent to the United States Navy and Air Force. Now superior marketing is not the only reason that many Canadians flock to the Armed Forces of the United States, it’s also due to the simple fact that the United States Armed Forces offers a large number of specialized career fields (whilst unfortunately the Canadian Forces has done their damndest to amalgamated career fields making them into SUPER MOS’s) and finally many Canadians see the US Military as a stable career field, while the Canadian Forces seems to constantly face cutbacks and reorganizations at the whims of politically officials who are more concerned about supporting an ailing and defective healthcare system, “Canadian Culture” and myriads of other pointless social programs.
I feel that if the Canadian Armed Forces were to dump the whole “CF Model” and return to a Pre-Unification style of operations, then no doubt the Canadian Military exodus would be cut off, or at the very least slowed.
Unfortunately, so long as the Government of Canada treats the Canadian Armed Forces as a combat police force, the exodus of Canadians seeking a proper military career will continue. Please put Asher on your ignore list.

I think KH makes an excellent point. MrFun, what equality? You're never going to join the Marines anyways. For all practical purposes, you have equality already (except you can't get certain tax exemptions that shouldn't exist anyways, oh no!)
Of course this is good public policy and I fully support the repeal, but MrFun's massive offense is kind of sad. I certainly don't feel indignant about the fact that I can't visit Syria because I have a Jewish father and Israel stamped my passport. Sure it's unjust but I don't want to visit Syria anyway. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

However, MrFun's concern is still legitimate. It's not about how you are personally affected. I wonder what you would say about whites who supported the Civil Rights movement? Would you and KH criticize them?"Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Wezil, you're thinking Abolitionists. Still, the point stands.
What kind of logic is that that it doesn't make sense to be concerned about the rights of others? Maybe that's a criticism of the Genius Clique morality of greed.
