I believe this is very possible. The best thing too is that we wouldn't have to listen to bigots like Glenn Beck anymore. We could probably shut up Drix while we're at it.

Can you explain why Madison and company put that "freedom of the press" thing in the First Amendment, then?

I'm not saying you can't have a free press, it just needs to be properly regulated for balance. Do you think Fox news is fair and balanced? Also, are you trying to say that the fairness doctrine isn't constitutional?

          China's press is free.

If it's "regulated for balance," IT'S NOT FREE. I'd like to explain why not, but really, that's pretty self-evident.

You never answered my question. Was the fairness doctrine unconstitutional?

It was never constitutional and it's just another example of how Democrats scream about free speech and the constitution while they trample it.

The best way to protect free speech and the constitution is to make sure there is a fair and balanced environment for political view points to be expressed. I don't expect you to understand that.

How is it free speech if the government forces people to express viewpoints they disagree with?

No one is forcing anyone to do anything. We had the fairness doctrine and everyone was fine with it. What's so bad about bringing it back and applying it to cable news as well? Why was it ok to regulate radio?

For one thing, the airwaves belong to the public while cable does not.

Okay, dug it up on Wiki. Yes, that sounds pretty unconstitutional to me. Byron White's "limited bandwidth" argument in favor of the Red Lion case cited is debatable (if Imran and Darius want to discuss it, they're probably better), but its central premise does not apply to cable news.

You seem to be a dissenter Elok. Need I remind you of the need for fair and balanced criticism?

Reminding me of the need for something you're trying to argue for? C'mon, you can beg the question harder than that. It's a recession, beggars need to be more competitive.

I'm simply reminding you of reality. Whether or not you choose to face reality is your own decision. Regardless, reality can often be cruel.
