Well the Lebanese Army is nearly non-existent so it's a moot point but let's get real. We know full well if Lebanon invaded Israel, HC would be flipping out and going rah rah Israel when Israel smacks Lebanon into the stone age.

Why would we want an impoverished and backwards addition to our country? North Korea would just drag South Korea down if they were to take it over.

Security is the only real concern for South Korea. I don't imagine South Koreans are gung-ho about unification.

Duh. I just don't see why you're bringing Israel and Lebanon into a thread about Korea.

No one gives a **** about Lebanon and this thread has nothing to do with Israel.

Yep. Still I'd say stuff like ideas of national identity/unity or so often reach beyond pure economic considerations.

indeed. i think if you did a survey of south koreans tomorrow and asked whether they would like to be reunited with the north, the answer would be a resounding yes.

If true, why did the North invade the South after the South declared independence in 1861?

What? Cotton and tobacco aren't valuable?

Okay I'm probably wrong on thinking that South Korean leadership would be more economically-concerned than 'ethnically-concerned' but I think that while South Korea definitely wants to be the leader in a unification, I don't think they have any intentions of ever fighting a war to unify the peninsula. A South-led unification will only happen through peaceful means.

Not compared to the North's wealth.

I've lived there and it's absolutely beautiful. That's the reason so many people are fighting over it .
