There's wider sociopolitical issues here that I don't think you are able to understand yet, HC.

A well-educated, healthy populace is a net benefit for your country. Post-secondary education in the US is already some of the most expensive in the world, which deters many people from that route. Adding additional financial burdens on them means you're either going to have tons of uninsured college students (which is obviously very bad), or less college students altogether as people can't afford the whole package.

This would have very obvious long-term effects beyond the fact that you don't think companies should have to pay for it (which indirectly comes out of the salary of their employees [eg, their parents], I hope you understand).

Considering the US' ridiculously low corporate tax rates, I've zero sympathy for *****ing about how expensive this is to companies. Look at the corporate tax rate for the US today compared to 1960...

HC is being maddeningly obtuse. Post-secondary education can most definitely take people up to 26. In this situation, health care, without the ability to get a full time job is very expensive. Placing the person on their parents' health care family plan policy is far cheaper for that person (one, he's on a group health plan and two, family plans are cheaper per person than individual insurance for each person in the family). Also with a mandate to obtain health insurance (done to lower costs as young professionals are now required to purchase health care), those in post-secondary education should be allowed to lower their costs while fulfilling the mandate.

I can't see a single reason why Asher's proposal (conditional on schooling) would be offensive to someone like HC unless he's completely out to left field on health care needs of grad degree students.

At least in Argentina where I live, many kids who actually get to college, seem to go through a commie phase (with some even flirting with anarchism) that lasts for a few years in which they are terrible retards.

I'm directly benefiting from the extension to 26. I only have part time work that offers no health insurance and I'm in graduate school. I'm getting surgery in January and without health coverage, I would have to pay around $6,000 out of pocket.

DriXnax makes a great point, that a lot of college students are ****ing stupid when it comes to politics, at an even greater proportion than voters generally (a remarkable feat). Not letting people vote until they've had a chance to get a real job and learn what it means to support yourself sounds like a good idea to me.

What if you have a disability that precludes you from entering the workforce, but not from voting?

Should married couples where only one person works have only one vote?

Idle rich who live solely on inherited income should be deprived of voting rights?
