Let's not forget what we are talking about as well: "Reduce noncombat military compensation." These aren't even the people putting their lives at risk.

Huh? Do you even know what the means? That means reducing everything that's not "Hazardous Duty Pay"... cutting pay, cutting the housing allowance, insurance benefits, education benefits, etc. It effectively means reduce everything for EVERYBODY except one specific form of pay that's only relevant during a deployment to a combat zone.

If your entire argument for lavish compensation for soldiers is the fact that they have a small chance of dying or being disfigured, shouldn't emphasis be put on "hazardous duty pay"? Increase that and cut everything else.

In return you get to not die: "the military would also reduce the length and frequency of combat tours. No unit or person will be sent to a combat zone for longer than a year, and they will not be sent back involuntarily without spending at least two years at home."

Alby, I think virtually all Americans appreciate the willingness of soldiers to sacrifice themselves for the USA, but that doesn't mean we have unlimited cash to throw at them for things that are not hazardous duty.

Nice. Pay soldiers less so less people sign up so the US military has a shortage of talent. Nice.

              Only on Apolyton.

You can't even offer a justification for the war in afghanistan. You just go on and on about how risky it is. You are dedicating a significant chunk of your time to getting involved in a conflict that you can't even defend on an internet forum. Doing risky things for no reason is stupidity, not bravery.

Is it just me or did Alby come to love the military because he became associated with it for his own perceived benefit, rather than attempting to join it because he already thought it was doing something worthwhile?

I thought it was a volunteer army. Why pay them anything?

Nobody gives a flying **** about your opinions, albie. You're uncreative, unintelligent and unmotivated. I'd say that you think that sitting around on your ass for years on end to try over and over again to make it through basic training is a smart career move, but you literally do not have a career to move about in. You're 26 years old, you have a mediocre bachelor's degree from a mediocre school and all you've done with your life since graduation is to take menial jobs and gripe on Apolyton.

At least other people I know with that kind of resume smoke a lot of pot/drink/have sex (with women)
